Catalyst Corner is pleased to announce a new Featured Company: AXION International Holdings, Inc. (OTCQB: AXIH)

AXION International Holdings, Inc. (OTCQB: AXIH) is a green technology firm that manufactures, markets and sells composite rail ties and structural building products such as boards, pilings, I-beams, and T-beams. Using patented technology, AXION’s products are made from 100% postconsumer and post-industrial recycled plastics and industrial scrap developed after years of research at Rutgers Center for Advanced Materials via Immiscible Polymer Processing, or AMIPP.

The deteriorating state of the infrastructure in the United States presents a catalyst for AXION’s two product lines:

1. ECOTRAX® Composite Railroad Ties

  • ECOTRAX® rail ties have been tested in-track or in lab on all continents except Antarctica.
  • ECOTRAX® rail tie products are targeted primarily towards North American railroad customers who are expected to significantly increase capital expenditures in the next several years.
  • ECOTRAX® customers include a Class I railroad, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) in San Francisco, Long Island Railroad (LIRR), Miami-Dade Transit and more.
  • ECOTRAX® is now in trial with transit lines in Brazil, Canada, Russia, Europe, and two Class I rail lines in the US.
  • According to the Policy & Economics Department of the Association of American Railroads (ARA), estimates that, including the cost of maintenance, railroads in recent years have been spending roughly $20 billion a year in private investments into the nation’s rail infrastructure and will continue to do so.

2. STRUXURE® Composite Infrastructure: includes pilings, I-beams, tongue-and-groove planking and other boards.

  • STRUXURE® has already been used in the construction of three short-span bridges at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, designed to support the extreme tonnage requirements for armored military vehicles such as tanks, and two at Fort Eustis, Virginia, designed to support high-load railroad traffic.
  • The American Society of Civil Engineers has recommended that the U.S. spend $17 billion a year on bridge maintenance, significantly more than the $10.5 billion that is currently spent each year.
  • AXION’s intended client base will be the U.S. Department of Defense, as well as other local municipalities that look to rebuild public infrastructure.
